MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE
Mahe Drysdale to Officially Open the New YMCA Tauranga !
On Friday July 25th, Mahe Drysdale, World Champion Rower, will be on hand to speak and “do the honours” at the Official Opening of the New YMCA Tauranga’s central office. Mahe was approached earlier in the year to be the Patron of the YMCA Tauranga based on the incredible spirit that showed at the Bejing Olympics as well as throughout his career.
“To us, it’s all about showing your spirit. Ask yourself, when was the last time you showed yours?” says Amy Thaler, CEO. “ Mahe shows his all the time and it’s incredible, that is why he is our Patron!”
The invitation only opening will be held at midday with an expected attendance of 125+ people including guest speakers Drysdale and Simon Bridges as well as notable guests Mayor Stuart Crosby, MP Jacinda Ardern and a host of others from all over New Zealand.
The festivities will continue on that day with an Open House from 3:00 to 6:30 pm welcoming the YMCA families and participants as well as the general public. “Our After School Care kids are baking up a storm and we are all looking forward to showing off our new digs” says Amy.
This is the first office the YMCA Tauranga has ever owned in its 30 year history and is due in large part one generous bequest made by Marjorie Coombes (nee Norton) who had a passion for helping youth. Her legacy together with a generous loan from TECT and many other sponsors in the building project made it all possible.
