AA praises NZTA
Waterview Connection decision
The AA has praised
the NZ Transport Agency Board announcement that it will
construct the Waterview Connection as a combined surface and
tunnel motorway.
“Today’s decision brings the completion of Auckland’s Western Ring Route one step closer. That means less congestion, improved travel times, safer local roads and safer motorways,” says AA spokesperson Simon Lambourne.
“NZTA must now complete the design and statutory consent process, and begin construction, as quickly as possible. This is Auckland’s most important transport project and we simply have to get on with it - there must not be any further delays.”
In a recent AA survey 67.4% of Auckland Members said they wanted to see the Waterview Connection opened as quickly as possible, and an overwhelming 89% agreed or strongly agreed with completing the Western Ring Route.
The AA-commissioned Allen report estimated the annual benefits of a completed Western Ring Route to be at least $840 million.
