Paraparaumu Airport Development Good News for Wellington Region
The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the prospect of a second commercial airport for Wellington with
the Environment Court giving the green light for the redevelopment of Paraparaumu Airport.
“It is very much in the Wellington region’s long term interests to have a viable second regional airport on the Kapiti
Coast,” said Chamber CEO Charles Finny.
“The Chamber has been lobbying for this outcome for some time. It is great that the uncertainty is finally over.
“Scheduled flights from Kapiti will increase the region’s connectivity and complement the operations from Wellington and
Palmeston North airports.
“The redevelopment of the airport will provide a welcome boost to the local economy.
“As well as bringing people to the Coast and increasing the mobility of local people, the development will bring new
aviation-related activity and other new industries to the area.
“The proposed commercial developments and new community facilities will be an attractive addition to the local business
and residential scene.
“As the airport and industrial park development is likely to put more pressure on Wellington’s western corridor roads,
the case for Transmission Gully and the new road between Mackays Crossing and Levin is even stronger now.
“The airport decision is good for the Kapiti Coast and the Wellington region as a whole and we hope that redevelopment
and the commencement of scheduled flights can start as soon as possible,” Mr Finny concluded.
