UCOL support for students in bus accident
UCOL is providing support for students who were involved in this morning’s bus accident at Awahuri near Palmerston North.
General Manager of Corporate Services Fiona Chard says counsellors and staff at UCOL’s Student Health Centre are there for any students who need them.
Fiona Chard says UCOL is relieved that noone was seriously injured – but says the incident must have been a shock. “We want to ensure any students who were upset by the accident receive the support they need.”
She says the students on the bus, which was travelling to Palmerston North from Whanganui, have since been collected in UCOL vans and were met by support services staff on arrival at the Palmerston North campus.
She says lecturing staff have been advised that these students will be late to class and are likely to be shaken. “Lecturers have been asked to keep an eye on them and if at all concerned get them in touch with our health centre,” she says.
The bus is a free service for staff and students, running between UCOL’s campuses at Palmerston North and Whanganui.
