Tangaroa College goes from strength to strength

Media release

Tangaroa College’s Community Recreation Centre goes from strength to strength

A recent $15,000 Lion Foundation grant means Tangaroa College and its surrounding community will now enjoy state of the art equipment in the new school based community recreation centre.

Support from the Lion Foundation has assisted with the purchase of new gear for the cardio and weights rooms.

Ms Ngaire Ashmore, Tangaroa College Principal, says the centre will service the school’s 1000 students and 100 staff, plus the wider community.

“We are focused on becoming a healthier and more active community.  We are developing a school based recreation centre and would like to provide appropriate facilities and equipment to encourage participation, pride and a healthy lifestyle.

“Thanks to the generosity of The Lion Foundation, we are able to provide equipment for our new cardio facility, as well as upgrade the weights room.  We are extremely grateful for this support which benefits our students and the wider community.”

Operating for over 20 years and one of the country’s most widely respected charitable trusts, The Lion Foundation is proud to encourage the enjoyment and skill of various sporting activities, by distributing back to the local community the funds raised through its gaming venues in Manukau.

The Lion Foundation Chief Executive Phil Holden says: “Kiwis love sport and Tangaroa College is committed to offering its students and the community a fully equipped recreation centre.  The Lion Foundation is proud to support this endeavour.”

The Lion Foundation funds a wide range of arts, cultural, sporting, educational and health focused causes.  This approach has been in place for many years and is designed to ensure the charitable trust’s support reaches as many New Zealand communities as possible.
