Kowi seminar free for the community
The Kowiana Association of New Zealand are hosting a free public seminar on “How Kowis can really fly”, with guest speakers Dr Yoon-Seok (Timothy) Hong and Mrs Sarah Soo-Young Lee, will be held on Tuesday 28 July, 7-9pm, at Westlake Boys High School auditorium on the North Shore.
Dr Hong will be presenting on ‘Building up a professional career in New Zealand’, giving practical advice for young Kowis on employment and career building. Mrs Lee will speak on the ‘Education of Kowis’, encouraging the involvement of Kowis in the community and for them to be active and positive role models.
Dr Yoon-Seok Hong has extensive working experience in water resource management and wastewater treatment projects, and developing multidisciplinary research and consulting projects with the central and local governments, and research at universities here in NZ and abroad. He has worked as Senior Scientist at the Wairakei Research Centre, the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS).
Mrs Sarah Soo-Young Lee has worked extensively within the New Zealand education system as a Chinese teacher, an ESOL teacher at Coatesville primary school and Takapuna intermediate school, respectively. She is actively involved in the Korean community including contribution to publications such as Goodday Korean newspaper, Korea Town and the NZ Property Journal, member of the Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification in New Zealand and a member of the PR Committee for the Korean Garden Trust. She has also written a wide range of resources for teaching English as a second language.
