Keep active this winter with Lively
Places
Get moving and have fun by keeping fit this
winter with the new Lively Places programme.
Leisure Active (Hutt City Council) and Activation (Upper Hutt City Council) have joined forces to develop and deliver the Lively Places programme designed to motivate Hutt Valley residents to increase their physical activity during the colder winter months.
With 22 different activities taking place in local community venues around the Valley between 20 July and the end of September, there's something for everyone.
Lively Places has been designed to provide residents with healthy winter recreation opportunities and to give people with a new lease on life.
Activities on offer include pilates, tai chi, dancing, yoga, qi gong, mums and babies classes, touch rugby, self defence, low impact aerobics, and handball. All activities are low-cost.
Recent research from Sport and Recreation New Zealand indicates that only 47.6% of adults in the Wellington region achieved the National Physical Activity Guidelines of 30 minutes of moderate intensity of physical activity on at least five out of seven days.
Getting involved in the Lively Places programme is easy. You can join the programme at any time and its no big deal if you miss a class. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear and bring a towel and water bottle.
Further information on the programme can be found in the new Lively Places brochure which will be available shortly from Council facilities around the Hutt Valley or by visiting www.leisureactive.co.nz.
