Te Ahurei o Matariki – and exhibition featuring works by local school children at the West Coast Gallery in Piha.

Pikihia Nga Maunga – Climbing Mountains, motivational speakers for youth. Te Whanau O Waipareira Trust presents a forum of positive messages for rangitahi.

Taonga Puoro - traditional Maori music workshop
10am, Sunnyvale Rail Station. Free.
Find out more about traditional musical instruments at this workshop hosted by McLaren Park & Henderson South Community Initiative and Project Twin Streams. Te Kura Kaupapa o Hoani Waititi and Sunnyvale Primary School will participate in the day’s events.

Nga Ramarama Whetu o Matariki – The sparking stars of Matariki. A project by Hoani Waitiiti Marae encouraging local köhanga to produce masks depicting the whänau of Matariki followed by a New Year feast.

The Sparking stars of Matariki, Nga Ramarama Whetu o Matariki
Hoani Waititi Marae. Children from local köhanga reo will make masks depicting the whänau of Matariki.

10.00am-4.00pm, workshops on kite making, weaving and traditional The Magic of Muka – discover the magic of stripping flax to reveal muka fibre and learn more about traditional uses of this material, 1.00pm-4.00pm. Corban Estate Art Centre, Henderson.
