Vote of Confidence in City Vision in Eden-Albert
Simon Mitchell, successful City Vision candidate in the Eden-Albert Community Board by-election today, put his victory down to standing up on the issues that were important to the community of Eden-Albert.
Simon Mitchell said, “I think the result is a vote of confidence in the way City Vision Councillors and Community Board members have come out publicly on issues like supporting the SH20 tunnelling, protecting heritage homes and shopping centres, cleaning up polluted creeks, advocating for better community outcomes for Eden Park, better public transport and local traffic improvements. The possible closing down of the Sandringham Community Centre by the Citizens and Ratepayers (C&R) Council was a cause for real concern. I am looking forward to joining the strong City Vision team on the board to continue this work with the Eden-Albert community.”
Councillor Glenda Fryer says she thinks Simon will be an excellent addition to the Eden-Albert Community Board and adds, “The feedback I received was that the residents of Eden-Albert are not happy that John Banks and the C&R majority on the Auckland City Council are putting the rates burden onto lower and middle value properties while giving rates relief to the mansions in Remuera and St Heliers. I think this was the reason that the C&R candidate came fourth out of five candidates.”
Councillor Cathy Casey said, “We ran a strong campaign and people have voted in favour of City Vision’s candidate and policies in the Eden-Albert ward. It shows they have confidence in City Vision for the future.”
Councillor Fryer concluded, “This by-election was a litmus test for how the community feels about this Council’s direction and policy. C&R lost hands down.”
