Announcement Heralds A New Future For Transport

Media Release: 7 April 2009

Announcement Heralds A New Future For Auckland Transport

The AA has welcomed the Government’s decisions today on the governance of Auckland transport.

Simon Lambourne, AA Auckland transport spokesman, says “today’s announcement heralds a new future for Auckland transport governance. We move from the current shambolic and disgraceful mess to a far more sensible, more efficient and more effective arrangement.”

“Gone is the current lack of accountability, the parochial decision making and the dysfunctional governance of Auckland’s transport infrastructure. We will now have one Regional Transport Authority working in the best interests of Auckland and accountable to Auckland.”

“The Royal Commission needs to be congratulated and thanked for its enormous contribution to today’s announcement and the future success of Auckland.”

“The AA looks forward to working with the government, the Establishment Board of the new Auckland Council and the new Regional Transport Authority, to ensure a successful transition takes place.”
