New advice centre will help Auckland families beat the cold

The launch of the Home Energy Advice Centre today provides a timely and essential resource for families getting ready
for winter. With daylight saving ending this week, schools and doctors surgeries are bracing themselves for the seasonal
spike in colds, asthma and bronchitis among our children. Increased power costs and hard economic times means it will be
harder for many families to keep their homes warm, dry and healthy.
The Home Energy Advice Centre’s launch means families can now call 0800 388 588 for free, expert and impartial advice on
making their homes warmer and healthier to live in.
“Cold, damp, draughty houses are a major cause of childhood asthma and bronchitis,” says Aaryn Barlow, Home Energy
Advisor at the new Centre. “Thankfully there are a plenty of easy and affordable suggestions we can give families to
help them keep warm and cut power bills. We aim to help people be healthier and wealthier this winter.”
Anyone living from Franklin to Rodney can access the free Home Energy Advice Centre service by calling0800 388 588 or by
visitingwww.energyadvice.org.nz .
