Stadium Plan Change Another Critical Milestone Achieved

Today’s approval of the District Plan Change is another critical milestone achieved in the path to completion of the Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza by 2011, says Stadium Trust Chairman Malcolm Farry.

“The Dunedin City Council has approved District Plan Change 8: Stadium as operative with effect from 30 March 2009. The Plan Change rezones the Stadium site for its intended uses of a new multipurpose Stadium and associated University facilities.

“We believe the site is one of the world’s finest stadium locations. Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza will form a cornerstone of a Dunedin Quadrant that connects The Octagon, University of Otago, the Stadium, waterfront, Railway Station and Chinese Gardens.

“This is a very positive and welcome conclusion to the planning process. The recent progress in funding decisions, combined with the adoption of the plan change, means we remain on track to start preliminary construction work on the Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza within the next three months,” said Mr Farry.
