Councillor breaches code of conduct
Horizons Regional Council has considered a Code of Conduct complaint brought by a staff member against Ruapehu area Councillor Michael Plowman.
Council determined that Cr Plowman was in serious breach of Horizons Regional Council’s Code of Conduct in respect of his behaviour and actions toward a staff member. This breach of the Code caused both hurt and humiliation to the member of staff and as such Cr Plowman failed in his duties and responsibilities as an employer representative. He has been censured.
Horizons’ Chairman Garrick Murfitt said it was important for the Council to take swift action on this matter.
“It is very unfortunate that the incident occurred. But as a good and responsible employer Horizons needed to take the appropriate action against Cr Plowman for his behaviour. I am fully confident that this situation is not going to mar the work of our Council in any way and we are all looking forward to putting this behind us.”
NOTE TO EDITOR: No further details will be issued on this matter.
