Swimming safely after heavy rain

Auckland City Council is advising people to wait 48 hours before swimming at beaches after heavy rainfall over night.

Beaches across the Auckland City area may be affected as occasionally heavy rain can cause stormwater and sewage overflows. Swimmers are also advised to stay clear of stormwater outfalls.

The council monitors 20 of the city's most popular beaches over the 6 months from November to April. Check out the latest test results at www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/safeswim, or phone 0800 SAFESWIM.
