Shellfish warning lifted for Papamoa coastline

MEDIA RELEASE 27 FEBRUARY 2009

Shellfish warning lifted for Papamoa coastline

The shellfish warning has been lifted for the Papamoa coastline, as sampling has now confirmed no bacterial contamination is present.

“The shellfish along the Papamoa coastline are now safe to collect and eat, but people should remember that after heavy rainfall shellfish collecting should be avoided due to possible urban run off,” says Toi Te Ora – Public Health Medical Officer of Health Dr Phil Shoemack.

For advice on health warnings regarding shellfish collecting you can contact your local Health Protection Officer. The Bay of Plenty Health Protection Officer phone number is 07 349 3522.
