Final Picnic for Teddy Bears at Auckland Domain

Final Picnic for Teddy Bears at the Auckland Domain

This Sunday, the 1st of March, marks the final picnic for over 20,000 Teddy Bears at the Auckland Domain.

The ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic, which is a free family event, has been held in the Auckland Domain for over 20 years, but this year will be the last time that teddy’s head along to the Domain to enjoy stage shows & strolling performers, magicians & musicians.

Next year, the ABE’s Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic must find a new home, as the Auckland Domain is being re-sown.

But for one last time, this Sunday from 11am – 4pm, Auckland’s teddy bears (and their owners) will be able to enjoy an array of entertainment and activities from the banks of the Auckland Domain.

For one last time, they will be able to wander up the banks, and amongst the trees, to see the mystery and magic of ‘Fairy Clare’s Fairy Grotto’. The Grotto features shows this Sunday such as ‘Fairy Katrina’s Silly Billy Show’ and ‘Fairy Trixie’s Magic Rainbow Show’.

Teddies will once more be able to do a lap of the Domain in the Teddy Bears Parade, following the team from Classic Hits, and a host of stilt-walkers and strolling performers.

Teddies, and their owners, will once more be able to watch the JK Kidsgear Entertainment Stage and see some of their favourite shows such as Ronald McDonald, the Dancing Popsicles, or Mad Science. Or they can check out the Embankment Stage and see the highly entertaining Captain Jelly, Alan Watson the Magician and Jessie Elsby from Pop Star Parties, who will perform a range of popular songs.

Kids, and their teddies, will once more be able to bounce on the huge range of bouncy castles throughout the Domain, all provided free of charge for children.

The ABE’s Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic has been much loved by Auckland families for 27 years, and after starting in Cornwall Park, has been at the Auckland Domain for over twenty years.

This year’s ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic will take place on New Zealand’s Children’s Day - Sunday, 1 March.

Children’s Day is a national day to celebrate how special and important our children are. The vision for Children’s Day is “to see children celebrated, nurtured and treasured by all” and emphasises that the most important gift an adult can give a child is time.

There is also free transport to the event. There is a free Metro link Teddy Express shuttle from outside 277 Broadway, Newmarket to the Auckland Domain. The shuttle runs continuously from 10am – 11:45am and resumes 1:30pm – 5pm. All children under 12 years of age can also travel free on any Metro link or LINK bus from 10am – 5pm on Sunday, 1 March if they are carrying a teddy bear.

The Auckland Domain will bid farewell to the ABE’S Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic this Sunday (1 March) from 11am – 4pm. Bring a picnic, the whole family, and your favourite bears, and see out over twenty years of Teddy Bears Picnics at the Auckland Domain in style.
