update statement from David Thornton.
Residents Worst Nightmare is here for Mulberry Place.
On Tuesday of this week these home-owners made strong representations to the North Shore City Council that, after 35 years of recorded instabiliy on this land, the only solution was for the council to buy their homes and then proceed to permanent stabilisation measures.
The council have rejected this request and want to delay further action by offereing mediation.
The resolution passed by the council was:
That the Council offer to participate in a mutually agreeable mediation process to find an acceptable solution to this matter, and report back to the 17 March 2009 Strategy & Finance Committee meeting.
This is rejected because it represents just another delay following more than 34 years of known instability on this site – and all the measures to remedy that having been unsuccessful.
With the issue of a heavy rain warning this morning home-owners of the three homes in Glenfield threatened by landslips are now under the direct threat of further landslips on the unstable land at the rear of their homes.
This is their worst nightmare – while the council ducks and dives, and the heavy rain starts to fall, the residents will be looking fearfully at the steep embankment behnd their homes. LOOKING FOR THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT FO THE SLOPE.
