You’d be crazy to miss The Mint Chicks at ZooMusic
The last Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic of the year will end on a bang with award-winning band The Mint Chicks performing on Saturday 7 March.
Describing their style as ‘troublegum’, the band’s last album Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! (2007) reached number one in the New Zealand music charts and won five New Zealand Music Awards including Album of the Year, Best Group and Best Rock Album. Their highly anticipated new album Screens (out 16 March) is already generating buzz with the single I Can’t Stop Being Foolish already at number one on the bFM charts. ZooMusic goers can expect to hear old favourites alongside songs from the new album.
The US-based Mint Chicks will perform with alternative rock group Pluto who have enjoyed a string of single and album successes, with their album Pipeline Under The Ocean (2005) reaching double platinum status and single Long White Cross winning Single of the Year at the 2005 New Zealand Music Awards.
While concertgoers should expect the unexpected when it comes to The Mint Chicks, what is known is the threat some of the worlds most endangered animals are under, and the support this concert will provide. Funds raised will assist the work of a Wildlife Protection Unit in Sumatra’s Bukit Tigapuluh National Park – a biodiversity hotspot that’s home to orang utans, rhinos, elephants, tigers and a rich diversity of bird, reptile and fish species. These units help to protect the park’s flora and fauna, and prevent wildlife crime.
“We can't wait to play ZooMusic - we hope to get everyone along, having a good time and raising some much-needed money for the endangered animals in Sumatra,” says The Mint Chicks’ Ruban Nielson
The opening act (6pm to 6.40pm) is rock and roll musician, the legendary Chris Knox. Pluto will take the stage at 6.50pm followed by The Mint Chicks at 8pm.
Your Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic ticket is also your entry to the zoo – so come early to explore the zoo and check out your favourite animals. Please be aware the band rotunda area will closed off in the afternoon to enable safe equipment set-up.
Tickets are available from Auckland Zoo and Ticketmaster. Purchase tickets with Visa and go into the draw to win a VIP picnic spot for you and three friends.
