Have your say on off-roading in the Ak region
Have your say on off-roading in the Auckland region
13 February 2009
Are you concerned about the impacts of off road motorised recreation on the environment?
Take this opportunity to explain your concerns to the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) so that it may take these into consideration when looking at what role, if any, it should play in the provision and management of off road motorised recreation in the region.
This is the second phase of a research project, conducted by the ARC, into off road motorised recreation in the Auckland region.
Phase one looked at the demand for and supply of sites and facilities for off road motorised recreation, the issues this form of recreation are facing and the potential responses that could address these issues.
This phase considers the impacts of off road motorised recreation and ways in which these impacts could be avoided, reduced or mitigated.
The management of vehicles on the region’s beaches, including Muriwai Beach and Te Oneone Rangatira, initiated this project. The Council recognised that off-road motorised vehicle recreation demands reach wider than our region’s beaches and coastline, and that many organisations including DOC, tribal iwi land corporations and forestry managers, have an interest in this research.
Download the research paper and find out how to give your feedback at http://www.arc.govt.nz/environment/coastal-and-marine/our-coast/off-road-recreation.cfm or go to www.arc.govt.nz and search keyword ‘off-road’. Submissions close 5pm on 6 March 2009.]
To complete
the study the ARC will be undertaking a public perception
phone survey of off-road motorised vehicle recreation in
February and then presenting the study’s findings to the
ARC Parks and Heritage Committee. The committee will
consider what role, if any, the ARC should play in the
provision and management of off road motorised recreation in
the region.
The final reports will be available on the
ARC website later this year.
