Northern Gateway Great News for Motorists
The opening of the Northern Gateway Toll Road this weekend is another positive step for the Auckland transport network.
“Motorists can now choose between driving the free coastal route or taking the new toll road which is quicker, safer and saves them fuel,” says AA spokesperson Simon Lambourne.
“The Northern Gateway will also significantly reduce traffic congestion in Orewa, Hatfields Beach, Waiwera and elsewhere along the coastal road.”
“We welcome the Government announcement that motorists will be able to use the toll road free of charge this Sunday and Monday. It means everyone has the opportunity to see this impressive piece of roading infrastructure, and experience the benefits for themselves.”
“There may be a few teething problems as motorists get use to the road and the introduction of New Zealand’s first electronic tolling scheme. The AA asks motorists to be patient if these do occur,” says Mr Lambourne.
The AA has amended its online mapping website www.aamaps.co.nz to include the Northern Gateway Toll Road, and all directions and routing information is up to date.
Motorists are reminded they can set up an account online at www.tollroad.govt.nz or by calling 0800 40 20 20 to pay their Northern Gateway tolls automatically. Alternatively, they can pay in advance or within three days of using the toll road. Cash payment points are also available at BP Connect Dairy Flat and Titford’s Bridge.
Further information about the Northern Gateway Toll Road is available on the AA’s website www.aa.co.nz or on the New Zealand Transport Agency’s toll road website www.tollroad.govt.nz
