simpler routes for Crosstown bus services

ARTA Media Release

22 January 2009

More direct, simpler routes for Botany Local and Manukau Crosstown bus services

Routes for the Botany Local and Manukau Crosstown buses are being simplified with some extensions and new timetables introduced by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) on 1 February this year following a period of extensive consultation with the community.

Mark Lambert, ARTA's General Manager Customer Services says, "The changes that are being introduced mean buses will be more direct, more frequent and routes much easier for passengers to understand."

"The routes affected are in areas that have developed rapidly in recent years, and by simplifying the network of bus routes that has developed along with them, we will be able to offer more direct services, some of which will have increased frequency at peak times.  Passengers should note that some routes have been changed and should check the new network carefully."

Details of the new network and timetables are available from MAXX and passengers are advised to check online at www.maxx.co.nz or call (09) 366 6400, before travelling.

Residents were consulted about proposed changes in August, with overall positive feedback.  New routes and services have been introduced following careful consideration of the responses received.

"The changes to the Botany Local and Manukau Crosstown routes reflect ARTA's focus of making public transport simple, easy to understand and frequent, in order to make it even more attractive to greater numbers of people." Mr Lambert said.

Bus patronage in the region has increased by grown by 29% since March 2006, from 196,588 to 253,490.

Passengers should note that services to and from Downtown Auckland will not be affected.
