Celebrate Chinese New Year at Manukau Libraries
Manukau Libraries have organised a variety of colourful entertainment to celebrate the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Ox.
Lion dancers, Tai Chi, cooking demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy and painting, lantern making and cake decorating are just some of the activities visitors can enjoy at Howick’s Fencible Lounge on Saturday, 31 January.
Elenoa Mo’a Sili-Mati, Manukau Libraries outreach coordinator says, “The event provides a wonderful opportunity for the city’s Chinese community to share their vibrant culture with other Manukau residents.
“It is also a great chance for library staff to promote their growing Chinese book collection,” says Elenoa.
Manukau Libraries have more than 20,000 Chinese books and magazines with 5,000 added each year. The books are very popular with 215,000 borrowed annually.
Chinese collections are available at Howick, Highland Park, Pakuranga, Botany, City Centre and Papatoetoe Libraries.
Elenoa invites all Manukau residents to join in the
Chinese New Year celebrations.
She guarantees a warm
welcome and something for all the family to enjoy. Best of
all it’s free.
