Top entertainment line-up for Auckland Seafood Festival
Well loved Kiwi bands such as dDub, Batucada Sound Machine, Ben Lummis & Levite Band, Debbie Harwood, Union and The Gee Bee’s are among the groups confirmed to play at the Auckland Seafood Festival, Anniversary Weekend, 24, 25 & 26 January 2009.
dDub will headline the main stage on Saturday with their ever popular reggae, ska and dub sounds, followed by favourite covers band, Union. The Sunday headliners will be the 13 strong Latin inspired Batucada Sound Machine, followed by the Party Dolls. On Monday, after tribute band The Gee Bee’s, the iconic Debbie Harwood is sure to have everyone dancing in a climactic close to the event.
The Auckland Seafood Festival will have something for everyone over the three days. Hilarity is almost guaranteed with the addition of the new competition stage featuring a superb line-up of fun events. These good old fashioned activities will not only be fun to take part in but even funnier to watch. Festival goers can test their strength in the Tug O’War contest and dine out on the oyster eating competition or have a go playing the special Auckland Seafood Festival Generation Game. Also on offer is the Fish Fear Factor (bobbing for fish balls) and the opportunity to marvel at the new festival sport of Fish Racing where contestants have to race along a track holding a slippery flat fish on out-stretched hands. The more sedate arts of knot-tying, fashion design for mermaids, sea shanty singing and cookery demonstrations will also make sure visitors enjoy a great day out.
The popular Greasy Pole contest
will return on the Saturday where members of the fishing
fleet attempt to retrieve a flag from the end of a well
greased telegraph pole over the harbour. Audiences will be
shrieking as most of the contestants slide off plunging in
to the water.
