Christchurch Top Town team announced
The official “Christchurch Crushers” team has been announced for the 2009 Top Town series.
Fourteen men and women have made it into the Christchurch Crushers final team cut including three reserves, one in each weight division.
After gruelling try-outs that took place in Christchurch City’s Cathedral Square earlier this month, it was a tough call however judges are satisfied with the final decision.
Christchurch City Council spokesperson said the talent that showed interest in trying out for the team was incredible making selection quite a hard task to narrow it down to the final cut.
“We needed to ensure that we picked a strong team that will carry the Christchurch name well and fight hard to defeat the other city teams.
“I think the team we’ve selected has the strength, power and personality to ‘crush’ our competitors on the course.”
Team members from right around Christchurch needed to fit into the required three weight divisions.
Members in the ‘Light Weight’ division include Jamie Gough; Sarah Burke; Skye Broberg; Louise Kerr; and reserve Sarah Chaussee.
Middle Weight members are Aaron Keown; Toby Behan; Paula Hannon; Aron Anderson; and reserve Craig William Fletcher.
Heavy Weight members are Matt Jermyn; Paul Mitchell; James Lancaster; Elizabeth Baker; with reserve Tim Crawford.
Team Manager and member Aron Anderson says the Christchurch Crushers have already spent time together getting to know one another whilst working on some fighting tactics to win the game.
“I’ve had them training hard the past two weeks working specifically on coordination and core strength which will help them balance and stay up longer on course.
