‘passer-by’ Catherine Macdonald
‘passer-by’ Catherine Macdonald
Catherine Macdonald is
a Whanganui artist and writer who, assuming the role of a
passer-by in her local environment, found a close-to-home
source of inspiration for her recent body of drawings. The
show opening on November 15 at Solander: works on paper,
tells tales of suburbia and turns our gaze to the streets.
Catherine depicts her subject in confident pencil and
watercolour drawings that are delightful in their
simplicity.
“Often there is more than meets the eye, it’s just a matter of figuring out what that more is.
“As you walk around the neighbourhood you can’t help but notice changes. Judgements are made in that instant you take to glance over the fence, or when you complete the rest of the snippet of conversation overheard. It is hard to tell if what you have read into these events is correct and probably you will never know. This show is one attempt at figuring out what the hell it all means.” – Catherine Macdonald, 2008.
An active participant in the lively Whanganui art scene, Catherine is a BFA graduate of the Whanganui Regional Polytechnic and a member of the Central Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
