Industry Training graduation a first for Shore’s Mayors Taskforce for Jobs

As part of the national Mayors Taskforce for Jobs initiative, North Shore City Mayor Andrew Williams will host the inaugural North Shore Industry Training Graduation on Friday, 14 November, at Council’s Head Office in Takapuna.

The event will recognise graduates enrolled in the Industry Training programme who have achieved their qualifications in the trades and service industry during the last year. Graduates’ families, friends and employers will be there to celebrate the success of industry trainees.

“This event will pay tribute to the Industry Training graduates’ achievements and recognise the economic benefit they are contributing to North Shore,” says Mayor Williams “We are thrilled to be hosting this important inaugural event in our community.”

The Mayor will deliver a speech thanking participating Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) for their commitment to the programme and the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs initiative. He will present graduates with a certificate of achievement and official congratulations from North Shore City.

Begun in 2000, the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs is a network of mayors in New Zealand committed to promoting industry training as a good career option. Mayors Taskforce representatives liaise with graduates and Industry Training Organisations.

The Industry Training programme focuses on youth employment and engagement in local communities, offering those under 25 years of age the chance to be in paid work, to be in training and education, and to be involved in community activities.

“The Industry Training programme and Mayors Taskforce for Jobs is a natural partnership,” says Williams. “They each provide excellent employment and career opportunities for our North Shore youth in the vital trades and service industry.”

With the current shortages of skilled workers, promoting industry training has become a major focus of the Mayors Taskforce. Graduations for industry trainees help honour the skilled workers in New Zealand communities and promote industry training to community members.

Industries involved in the programme are diverse and extensive, representing 40 different industries divided into five sectors: primary, manufacturing, infrastructure, services, and government and community services.
