Monday 10 November

It’s official, Taupo is New Zealand’s most loved town.

After a close run six-week nationwide competition, Taupo has been voted New Zealand’s most loved town.

After weeks of neck and neck competition between Taupo and Opotiki, Taupo got it together to streak ahead to victory. Reasons people gave for loving Taupo included the lake, the great coffee, the people and the hot pools.

T-shirt company Billi Tees who ran the Holla for your Hometown competition received votes from as far afield as Eketahuna, Scott Base in Antarctica and Riverton in Southland.

With just one vote per email address, townsfolk needed to encourage each other to vote, demonstrating community spirit as well as a drive to win.

In addition to fame and glory, Taupo can now expect their own t-shirt design. Billi Tees will now organise a handover ceremony with the mayor of Taupo, which will include a bang-up afternoon tea, free Taupo tees for the first 30 people who voted Taupo, discounts for all and giveaways.

Stay tuned to www.billitees.co.nz to find out more about the ceremony. Everyone that voted Taupo will be emailed an invitation to attend.
