Vehicle Crash involving Police Car in Canterbury District
At approximately 1.45pm a member of the STU was driving an unmarked Police vehicle West along Armagh Street, following a
moped driving at speed. The driver of the Police vehicle deployed his lights and sirens, entering the intersection. He
has then struck a member of the public driving an SVU. The SVU has rolled and ended up crashing through a business
premises window. The 40 year old female driver has been taken to Christchurch Hospital. Her injuries are not life
threatening and she is currently being interviewed by a member of the Police.
Inspector PRICE, the Duty Commissioned Officer, is co-ordinating the investigation. Specialist Crash are currently
co-ordinating the scene investigation. An NCO has been assigned to co-ordinate the IPCA investigation. A separate NCO
has been assigned to carry out the crash investigation phase. The Constable has been returned to the station where he is
currently being interviewed. At this stage Police are speaking to a number of witnesses at the scene to establish
exactly what has taken place.
The investigation will be referred to the IPCA once completed. Release made by Inspector Gary KNOWLES, Acting District
