Feedback wanted on Whitford Village plan change
Public feedback is wanted on a proposed district plan change that would allow future development of Whitford Village.
An information day is also being held as part of an informal feedback period to help refine the plan change before it is
notified. The information day is being held on Friday 31 October 3pm-7pm at Whitford Village Hall on Whitford Park Road.
The period for informal feedback closes on 14 November. You can give feedback at the information day or by going to
www.manukau.govt.nz/whitfordplanchange where there is also information about the plan change.
The council will then amend the plan change if necessary before formally notifying it for further public submissions.
The plan change follows previous public consultation in 2005.
Provision would be made for limited further development of the existing residential and business areas of the village.
Development of a new residential area on the land south of the village and up to Saleyard Road is also proposed. A
pedestrian linkage is proposed between the existing houses and the proposed new residential area to the south.
New developments would be required to connect to a reticulated wastewater system. Provision is made in the plan change
for a land-based disposal system that would be designed to serve the whole of the village.
If approved the plan change would provide for an extra 430 residents in the village.
Manukau City Council Acting Regional and City Planning Peter Reaburn says the council has taken a “design-led” approach
to the plan change.
“This will help to make sure any development is high quality and maintains a special village character.
“Design and environmental guidelines for development are a key part of the plan change. For example making sure streets
cater well for pedestrians and buildings work well with each other and the environment.
“We’d encourage people to come along to the information day and have their say. Feedback at this stage will help the
council refine the plan change before it is formally notified. There will be further opportunities for public
submissions during the plan change process,” Mr Reaburn says.
