Art Awards hits Opunake!
The Taranaki Art Awards is gearing up to be a highlight in your creative calendar this spring.
Over 300 entries have been received from artists throughout Taranaki and New Zealand. Formerly known as the Taranaki Art Review, the awards offer an opportunity for artists to exhibit and sell their artwork, with the added bonus of the $11,000 prize pool.
The diverse exhibition will showcase a range of artworks in many different mediums – painting, watercolour, sculpture, fibre art and photography.
The exhibition is a great opportunity to get inspired, educated, see something a bit different or to purchase your own piece of original artwork.
The Taranaki Art Awards Committee is very pleased to announce the judges for this year - Bill Milbank, Penny Eames and Wayne P Marriott. Their collective experience will be vital when faced with the daunting task of picking the winners.
In its seventh year, the awards could not be such a great success without the help from the Opunake community, volunteers and generous support from sponsors. The major sponsors this year are: TSB Community Trust, Shell Todd Oil Services, F.E Rodie Trust, Young/Carrington, PKW/Tui Ora, Opunake Businesses, Michael Hill Jeweller, South Taranaki District Council, Egmont Plains Community Board and Creative Communities.
The Awards night is on Friday 24 October and offers a great night of entertainment and a chance to meet the artists. Come along, enjoy wine and cheese and get into the 1970’s dress theme –Yeah baby! Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from Real Tart Gallery in New Plymouth, or from any LibraryPlus centre in South Taranaki.
The Taranaki Art Awards will be on display from 22 October – 2 November at Sandfords Event Centre, Opunake. Make sure you check it out!
