Media Release

30 September 2008

Funds available for community groups

Funding is now available to community groups for projects that support community initiatives, or assist in economic and environmental development of Manukau.

Each of the city’s eight community boards has funding to allocate to not-for-profit groups or organisations carrying out projects in their communities.

Groups planning a project or offering a service that benefits the residents of one or two communities should apply to the Community Board Discretionary Fund, says Jan Perkins, one of the council’s community funding co-ordinators.

Funding is also available to assist community based organisations to provide School Holiday Programmes and activities during the upcoming Christmas-January school holidays.   Applicant groups must be an OSCAR approved provider.

Applications to both funds close at 4pm Friday 24 October.

Community groups can phone the community funding co-ordinators on 262 5798 or 262 8900, ext 8367, or visit www.manukau.govt.nz/funding for application forms.
