Clean up at Kawakawa Bay landslip continues
Work continues over the weekend with road workers cleaning up at the Kawakawa Bay landslip area.
Organisational Performance Director Robyn McCulloch says the council is working hard to get a single lane road open.
“The sucker truck will be in action again and with more material and slurry to be removed, it’s all go over the weekend.
“The council understands how frustrating the road closure has been for the community, not just for those living in Kawakawa, but the residents of Orere Point, Clevedon, indeed the wider community have been affected by the landslip.
While the road has been closed the council has provided free alternative transport options like a ferry service, a 4-wheel drive shuttle and a shoppers’ bus.
“It’s been a real help to some people. On Wednesday there were 24 passengers on the shoppers’ bus to Thames. I’m pleased the bus has allowed some people to go about their usual day.
“The council would like to thank the Auckland Transport Regional Authority (ARTA) for their assistance with the free ferry service and the Ministry of Education for providing a school bus for Clevedon students temporarily attending Orere School.”
