Manukau Mayor Len Brown returns to work

Media Release
19 September 2008

Manukau Mayor Len Brown returns to work after illness

Manukau mayor Len Brown will return to work at the Civic Centre on Monday 22 September after being given the all-clear by doctors.

Initially Mr Brown will work reduced hours – about 5 hours a day - but he will eventually resume a full mayoral schedule.

In June, the Manukau City Council granted Mr Brown six months leave of absence after his heart attack and surgery.

Deputy mayor Gary Troup has been acting mayor while Mr Brown has been away.

He says he is extremely pleased to welcome Len back.

“I know all of the councillors and staff will provide whatever support is required for Len to transition back after his illness,” says Mr Troup.

“We will be watching to make sure Len is not taking on too many duties, too quickly.”

Mr Brown suffered a heart attack at the Pacific Music Awards on 31 May and subsequently underwent heart operations at Auckland Hospital.
