*More Street Cleaning For Eden-Albert Centres*
When the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee resolved to extend cleaning services to the town centres of Mt Albert, Mt Eden and Balmoral, a rousing cheer was given by City Vision Eden-Albert Ward Councillors Cathy Casey and Glenda Fryer who have been lobbying hard for months to get extra cleaning for the town centres in their ward.
Councillor Cathy Casey says that although the new funds aren't large (Mt Albert will receive $32,500 annually, while Balmoral and Mount Eden will both gain an additional $16,500 each year), the additional services will have a big impact on the cleanliness of the town centres.
"I am very pleased with this outcome. Glenda and I have worked very hard at council to get this money; I think our council colleagues got tired hearing from us about the sorry state of the Eden-Albert shopping centres! The Central Leader was also extremely helpful in highlighting the issues publicly which helped us keep the pressure on."
Councillor Glenda Fryer says that the extra money is a victory for people power.
"The Mt Albert Residents Association has been very vocal and hopefully we will soon have a Mt Albert Business Association. This will add lobbying weight to ensure Eden-Albert gets its fair share and we can continue to progress a whole range of local issues like protecting Owairaka-Mt Albert and getting a decent train station!"
