Acting Manukau Mayor reacts to Manurewa tragedy

Acting Manukau Mayor Arthur Anae says news of another tragedy in Manurewa must not discourage community efforts to combat violence and crime.

“Recent events in Manurewa have seen the community pull together to find solutions to a range of social issues.

“There has been a lot of work going on involving the Manurewa Community Board, the Manukau City Council, government departments and police.

“This response shows our residents do care and are prepared to roll up their sleeves and contribute to a way forward.

“These efforts must continue.

“Working towards a safer community is one of the key social policy goals of the Manukau City Council. Safe City Portfolio Leader Dick Quax has made a great contribution in this area.”

Mr Anae says the circumstances concerning the incident at the Justamere Place address are as yet largely unknown.

Mr Anae visited Justamere Place last night and intends to make contact with the family of the dead teenager as soon as possible to offer condolences and support.
