SE Asian Night Market warms wintry Wellington

Think of it as an antidote to all that Olympic fervour or simply a rest from all that Games viewing.
The Southeast Asian Night Market is a free family event in Wellington this Saturday August 16.
There will be varieties for Southeast Asian cuisine from eight Southeast Asian countries as well as kickboxing, gamelan, shadow puppets and batik making.
Bring along the whole family to experience some of the attractions of Southeast Asia.
The event will be at the TSB Bank Arena, Queens Wharf from 2pm until 10pm.
The event is organised by the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) in partnership
with the Wellington City Council and the Asia New Zealand Foundation.

Southeast Asian Night Market warms wintry Wellington
Tourists in Asia automatically head for the nearest night market, where they can sample cheap and delicious local foods and buy colourful souvenirs for friends back home.
Now you can transport yourself from Wellington’s winter to the warmth, flavours and spicy smells of a typical Southeast Asian Night Market at the TSB Bank Arena on August 16.
Six ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asia Nations) members Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam plus the Cambodian and Myanmar communities have joined forces to bring you this magical new FREE event in partnership with Wellington City Council and the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
Highlights include Thai kick boxing, Philippine and Vietnamese martial arts, gamelan, Indonesian wayang kulit puppets, interactive traditional Asian games and demonstrations of batik printmaking. Plus of course delicious food stalls and non-stop entertainment.
Be in to win a trip to Singapore or Indonesia plus other great prizes! Proceeds from the Singapore raffle will go to the Royal New Zealand Plunket Society, while Wellington City Mission will benefit from the Indonesian raffle and from the ASEAN Committee in Wellington Charity Fund.
