Rain moving east as day progresses

The Met Service believes that the worst of the rain has passed the Auckland region. However, heavy rain continues in the Coromandel and is expected in the Bay of Plenty, causing problems on the roads.

Overnight rain bought surface flooding across the Auckland region causing a number of road closures. State Highway 1 North of Warkworth will remain closed until approximately 1300hrs after a land slip. Transit is on site clearing the highway.

Rain is expected to continue across the region for the remainder of the week and people should continue to monitor Met Service reports.

Regional Civil Defence Controller, Harry O’Rourke, has been pleased with the public’s response to the recent storms.

“The public has continued to exercise caution throughout the week and this has minimised the impact of the weather.

By taking simple precautions at home and on the road, we can all help to keep things running as smoothly as possible,” he said.

Drivers are urged to take the following precautions:

Check Transit’s website before travelling

Headlights on

Drive to the conditions

Keep a safe distance from the car in front
