More bridge beams to be put in place for SH2 Dowse to Petone Upgrade tomorrow
More bridge beams are to be put into place for the new Dowse Interchange tomorrow night requiring the temporary overnight closure of Hutt Road. Transit says Hutt Road will be closed between Hume and Wakefield Streets from 6.00pm tomorrow night (Thursday 24 July) until 6.00am Friday morning in order to provide a safe working zone for the bridge beams to be lifted into place.
Motorists are asked to follow a signposted diversion while the beams are to be put into position adjacent to the main part of the interchange structure, beside but not over Hutt Road itself. The D2P construction team will begin closing the road at 6.00pm in time for the convoy of trucks transporting the beams along SH2 to have clear and safe access.
The beams will then be lifted over Hutt Road and into position in the plot of land cleared for the project. Access to properties on Hutt Road will be maintained, but anyone else travelling beyond the road closure area is asked to follow the signposted diversion.
In the event of high winds or other poor weather factors, work will be carried out on the next suitable evening. Tomorrow evening’s work will help to further form the connecting ramp to the interchange marking another important milestone in the project’s construction.
Transit asks for everyone’s patience while we continue to work on this project which will improve journeys on SH2 between Dowse Drive and Petone.
