Saving money pays off for six-year-old
Regular saving paid big dividends for six-year-old Sarah Gullery recently, when she won the chance to experience Life Flight's Westpac Rescue Helicopter in action.
Sarah deposited money into her junior account during the Westpac Chopper Appeal in May and was entered into a competition to win a tour of the Life Flight rescue base and a ride in the helicopter.
Life Flight crewman Logan Taylor says it was great to see the joy on Sarah's face at the start of the exhilarating flight, which demonstrated some of the features of the rescue aircraft.
"We rely on community funds to keep saving lives so it's good when we get the chance to recognise people who have supported us and give them an idea of what our missions can be like," said Mr Taylor.
Life Flight operates 24 hours a day and saves around 1,500 lives every year.
Westpac also donated $10 to the Chopper Appeal for everyone who opened or made deposits into a children's account. The final amount raised during the May appeal is yet to be released, however the bank says this promotion alone contributed over $21,000 to rescue helicopters they support throughout the country.
Donations to Life Flight can be made at any Westpac branch all year round.
