Celebrating community safety initiatives
Nominations open today for Auckland city’s community safety awards 2008.
The annual awards recognise the contributions of groups, individuals, organisations and businesses that carry out community safety initiatives, injury prevention, road safety or crime prevention work in our communities.
Chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Councillor Paul Goldsmith, says community safety is a priority area for the council.
“We want to acknowledge those who are carrying out valuable activities in their local communities to help make our city a safer place,” he says.
The awards take place in September during Safety NZ Week, a national initiative led by the Accident Compensation Corporation and Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand.
To be eligible for the award, a person, group, school or business needs to have introduced a community safety project or activity in the Auckland City Council area during the past two years.
If you know someone who has helped make our community a safer place to live, work and visit, download a nomination form at www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/projects or phone 379 2020 to request one. Applications close at 5pm on Friday, 1 August.
