MEDIA RELEASE
TRANSIT NEW ZEALAND WELLINGTON REGIONAL OFFICE
13 June 2008
WCC sewer and stormwater upgrade to begin on state highway intersection
Work to upgrade some of Wellington City’s sewer and stormwater pipes will be happening on the state highway from this evening (13 June) with limited affect to road users.
Transit Central Operations Manager Mark Owen says the Wellington City Council (WCC) renewal of these old pipes will be undertaken at night at the intersection of Vivian Street and Cambridge Terrace to minimise the impact on the state highway. Work will happen between 7.00pm until 6.00am for the next two weeks with workmen returning for one night after this time to complete the intersection work.
The work is part of a wider WCC programme of work to renew sewer and stormwater mains along the whole length of College Street, at the College/Vivian Street intersection and the Vivian Street/Cambridge Terrace intersection to Kent Terrace.
Mr Owen says the contractor for this work, Wellington Pipelines, is expected to make every effort to ensure two lanes of traffic is available through the site during construction. While delays may be possible in association with the sewer and stormwater upgrade, Transit expects this to be very minimal.
Thank you for your patience while this work is carried out.
