Vogel House in Hutt City to be new home of Governor-General

Mayor David Ogden is delighted with the news that Governor-General the Hon Anand Satyanand and Her Excellency Susan Satyanand will be calling Hutt City home for the next three years.

In the budget today it was announced that Vogel House in Hutt City will become the official residence of the Queen’s representative to New Zealand while Government House in Wellington is undergoing extensive renovations.

Mayor Ogden said he looked forward to welcoming the Governor-General and Her Excellency to Hutt City.

“My wife Teresa and I had the pleasure of hosting them both for morning tea after Mr Satyanand’s appointment to the position of Governor- General.

“I was taken by their warmth and friendliness, and it is really wonderful news that they will be part of our community for the next few years.

“I’m sure the people of Hutt City will be very welcoming, and that the Governor-General and Her Excellency will enjoy their stay in our beautiful city.”

Mayor Ogden said it was a special honour for Hutt City to be chosen as the temporary residence of the Governor-General.

Designed in 1933, Vogel House was the official residence of Prime Minister Robert Muldoon and for a short time Prime Minister David Lange.  Latterly, it has been occupied by senior Minister Jim Anderton.
