MEDIA RELEASE

Annual plan – you’ve spoken, we’re listening

For immediate release: Tuesday 20 May 2008

Environment Bay of Plenty councillors have listened to the views of 25 people on the Regional Council’s plans for the coming year.

Organisations and individuals had their say by making submissions on the Draft Annual Plan, which sets out the Regional Council’s priorities for 2008/09.

Environment Bay of Plenty Chairman John Cronin was pleased people had written constructive, informative submissions.

“We want to work with the community for a better environment and to do that we need to know what the community is thinking. We are therefore grateful to those people who have taken the time to give us such useful feedback, which we have listened to and will take into account when we have our annual plan deliberations,” Mr Cronin said.

Council meetings to hear submissions were held in Paengaroa on Tuesday 14 May and Whakatane on Wednesday 15 May. The next step is deliberations which will be held on Thursday 29 May at Environment Bay of Plenty’s Whakatane office. They are open to the public.

Council will then consider adopting the annual plan 2008/2009 at the council meeting on Thursday 19 June.

The Draft Annual Plan 2008/09 is based on year three of the Ten Year Plan 2006-16. The Regional Council also sought views on the Draft Section 36 Resource Management Act Charges Policy For 2008/2009 and Draft Bay of Plenty Regional Council Floodway and Drainage Bylaw 2008.

Copies of the submissions are available to read at Environment Bay of Plenty’s offices in Whakatane, Rotorua and Mount Maunganui. The summary of submissions is available on Environment Bay of Plenty’s website.
