Kerikeri Local Sensed Lotto Win
A woman from Okaihau in Kerikeri was so certain she was going to win Lotto she rushed home to watch the draw and check her numbers for the first time in years and she was right.
The lucky player won a $500,000 share of last weekend's First Division Lotto prize, but still double checked with the Kerikeri Civic Video and Lotto store despite her premonition.
"I'd had a feeling, and even an itchy palm that week, but still had to call the young man who I'd bought the ticket from to check the numbers again, and see how many other winners there were that night and he was as excited as I was," says the woman, who doesn't want to be named.
"I haven't had two cents to rub together for so long, so this is really welcome, and I'm going to invest the money while I think about what I'm going to do with it."
The Kerikeri Civic Video and Lotto store has had its fair share of winners, but owner/operator Phil Snowdon says it's great that this win is by a local.
"We've had 10 First Division winners, and even two Winning Wheel winners win one week after another, but many of them have been people passing through.
"This week's winner is a regular here, and we're thrilled that she's won as she really deserves it and her winnings will filter back into the community," says Phil.
The other $500,000 First Division prize from Waipukurau Paper Plus still hasn't been claimed.
