SEA brings organic focus back to the Backstage, with 2008 Organic Festival

The Students for Environmental Action group (SEA) is holding our annual Organic Festival at Backstage on the evening of Friday the 2nd of May.

SEA intends the 2008 Organic Festival to be a fun and awareness-raising event that will promote organic options. There will be free organic beer samples and nibbles, and some organic wine will be available on the night for purchase. SEA will provide a wide range of information about how, where and why to buy organic. Providing entertainment will be stacks of great local acts, including The Retrophonic Funk Machine, The Biff Merchants, Fil Basik, Fea St Hustle, the Entropy Trio, Nick Melas, Julian Temple, Me and Erica, and DJs Boof and Manick. For extra enjoyment Green MP Nandor Tanczos will be in attendance at the Organic Festival, and will treat our lucky punters to his thoughts on organics.

SEA considers the main aim of this Organic Festival to be to highlight the importance of organic food and drink in regards to environmental and personal health. SEA wants to encourage a wider sector of the community to become conscious of the harmful effects of conventional farming methods and synthetic treatments such as pesticides and herbicides. The second goal of the 2008 Organic festival is to raise money towards protecting the Maui and Hector’s Dolphins. These New Zealand species are severely endangered, and as there are estimated to be only 111 Maui individuals left in the world, SEA feels this is a great initiative to support.

SEA will be collaborating with a number of local businesses and organizations to make the 2008 Organic Festival the best possible quality. We expect strong attendance; as in previous years up to 400 people have participated.
