Creativity Awards Ready To Go
Despite the fact there will be several changes from recent years at the 2008 Bluff Oyster & Food Festival on Saturday 24 May many of the old favourites of past Festivals will remain.
One of those favourites is the Kayes Bakery Creativity Awards where the quality of entries each year is absolutely stunning.
The awards consist of two main events - the Bluff Oyster Sack Fashion and Foveaux Fantasy. The Kayes Bakery Oyster Sack Fashion has been thebackbone of the Festival for many years. Using Bluff Oyster sacks has provided a challenge for many competitors, with an emphasis on designs that make a fashion statement. The other component of the competition, the Kayes Bakery Foveaux Fantasy is an unrestricted wearable art competition allowing the use of any materials.
Both events are split into three sections - Primary for Years 1-6, Secondary for Years 7-13 and Open for adults. Primary entrants are permitted to have limited adult assistance. Prior to the Festival there will be a number of parade rehearsals and full costume rehearsals while judging will take place prior to the Festival. However all garments must be available for the Festival itself and will be featured in the fashion parade.
Each section features excellent prizemoney and each section winner is eligible for the Supreme Creativity Award. For a chance to win and be part of the Bluff annual event, it’s time to get creative.
Entry forms and the general conditions of entry are available from www.bluff.co.nz . Entries must be original and the opportunity to enter closes at 4pm on Thursday 24 April. Potential entrants can obtain oyster sacks from Barnes Oysters - phone 03 218 2575 or from obliging oystermen.
Therefore, the place to be on Saturday 24th May is Bluff where the traditional Festival featuring a great range of Bluff Oysters, succulent seafood and a selection of non-seafood items plus fine beverages plus many of the favourite activities and competitions of past Festivals will take place.
The Bluff Oyster & Food Festival will be held at the Real Journey’s venue located on the Foreshore Road in Bluff on 24 May. Tickets are on sale for the event from the Invercargill City Council Booking Office in Invercargill, the Bluff Service Centre in Bluff and Ticket Direct outlets. Bookings can be made at 03 211 1692 or 0800 224 224 or via www.ticketdirect.co.nz or at bluffoysterfestbookings@icc.govt.nz
Adults tickets for the event will cost just $15 each while tickets for children 12 & under will sell at $5 each.
Information relating to the event will be regularly updated at www.bluff.co.nz as more details come to hand. Further information can be sought via email - oysterfest@bluff.co.nz
