New Naming Rights Sponsor of Wellington’s Sportsperson of the Year Awards

Sport Wellington Region is pleased to announce The Dominion Post as the new naming rights sponsor of The Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards. The awards provide a forum in which to recognise excellence in Wellington Sport so The Dominion Post, being the trusted source of sports news and a major supporter of sports throughout Wellington, is the perfect partner. Previous winners of the awards are George Bridgewater, Michael Campbell, Tana Umaga and Melissa Moon.

Nominations for The Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards 2008 will open on the 1st April and will be accepted for the following categories.

 Sportsman of the Year  Sportswoman of the Year  Team of the Year  Coach of the Year  Emerging Sportsperson of the Year (to be under the age of 23 as at 24th March 2008).  Personality of the Year  Club Team of the Year  Volunteer of the Year  Athlete with a Disability  Fair Play Award  Official of the Year  Administrator of the Year  Lifetime Contribution to Sport

The winners of each category will be announced at a gala awards dinner at the Wellington Town Hall on Thursday 29th May. Tickets for the 2007 dinner sold out in a record 5 days so ensure you get in early to secure your table.

All category winners (excluding the Lifetime contribution award) automatically become finalists for the supreme award – The Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year 2008.

Accomplishments by nominees will only be considered if they have occurred during the qualifying period of 10th April 2007 to 24th March 2008.

The closing date for nominations is: Midday, Thursday 24th April 2008.
