Environment Bay of Plenty welcomes hearing

MEDIA RELEASE

Environment Bay of Plenty welcomes High Court hearing

For immediate release: Friday 14 March 2008

Environment Bay of Plenty is looking forward to the future direction and certainty that will come from a Rotorua High Court hearing starting on Monday 17 March.

The hearing, expected to take two to three days, is about the process the Council used when deciding last year to move its head office to Tauranga.

Chairman John Cronin said the council was looking forward to the hearing, as the result from it would provide direction and certainty for its staff and elected members, as well as for the regional community about what would happen next.

“That’s the most important thing at this stage – providing certainty for the future so that we can all move forward,” he said. “Whatever the outcome, we want to move on positively, working with our partners and the regional community to do this.” A judgement is not expected immediately, but is expected within a few weeks of the hearing.
