Mane Liners’ Zoo gig sure to make you roar

People, not big cats, are likely to be roaring the loudest at Auckland Zoo on Sunday 30 March (7.30pm) when The Mane Liners deliver Comedy for Conservation – The Urban Jungle.

The trio of actors – Kiwis Simon Cameron and Nigel Burrows, with MC Stephanie Erwaine (Steve Irwin’s long-lost auntie), are passionate conservationists who pride themselves on their ability to exploit the homo sapiens sense of humour to help save endangered wildlife.

“Crikey, laughing’s a gas, and a renewable one at that, so we’ll be generous,” says Auntie Steph, who says audience members will be welcome to share stories about their own pets and zoo experiences for The Mane Liners to act out.

An Auckland Zoological Society event, Comedy for Conservation will be raising funds for the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund, which supports local and international field conservation projects. Profits from this event will go to the Amphibian Ark 2008 Year of the Frog campaign to assist native frog recovery.

“It’s important you Kiwis hop along. The world’s facing an amphibian extinction crisis and you’ve got four highly endangered New Zealand native frogs, just tiny little fellas, but they’re in big trouble. It’s no laughing matter, but come and have a laugh, give us your moolah, and at least you’ll be doing something to help the situation,” says Aunty Steph.

Comedy for Conservation – The Urban Jungle will be performed in Auckland Zoo’s Grasslands Theatre. Tickets cost $20 per person, and a cash bar will operate. For bookings, phone the Auckland Zoo Information Centre on 09 360-3805 Further information about the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund and the zoo’s involvement in the Amphibian Ark 2008 Year of the Frog campaign can be found at www.aucklandzoo.co.nz

The Mane Liners, Auckland Zoological Society members and Zoo staff all donate their time and services for Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund fundraisers.
