‘BBQ Bunny Bangers’ Latest On Field Days
Menu
‘Barbecue bunny bangers’ are the latest in a line of pest food-themed treats the Northland Regional Council is to give away at the upcoming Dargaville field days.
The Council has previously given away possum and goat meat pies and last year dished up about 2500 crackers topped with possum pate in a bid to boost visitors to its field days’ marquee.
At this year’s Thursday 28 February to Saturday 1 March Northland Agricultural Field Days the Council plans to give away about 90kg of barbecued sausages made with wild rabbit meat sourced from a Central Otago high country station.
Regional Council Events Co-ordinator Liz Woodward says about 1800 cocktail-sized sausages will be served on a stick with chutney over the three days of the field days from the Council’s new site – site 251.
Ms Woodward says the Council hopes the light-hearted attraction will once again boost visitor numbers to its marquee. As well as dishing out the bunny bangers, a variety of Regional Council staff will be on hand at the climate change-themed field days to chat about the more serious aspects of the NRC’s work.
That work includes everything from sustainable land and home use to water quality and weed and pest control.
